Keep Your Pet Healthy with Wellness Exams & Vaccinations

You probably already know that pets age about seven times faster than humans, but are you doing enough to keep your four-legged friend healthy? We recommend annual pet wellness exams and vaccinations as a means of preventive care because we believe the best way to treat an illness is to prevent it. By bringing your pet in for a wellness visit at least once a year, you can lower or even eliminate their risk of potentially serious diseases, such as obesity and gum disease.

About the Wellness Exam

For adult pets, we typically recommend a wellness exam at least once a year, but for senior pets, we may recommend an exam twice a year. These more frequent visits are important to accommodate the changes that come with age. During your pet’s wellness exam at Golden State Veterinary Care, we’ll conduct a nose-to-tail assessment to make sure they’re healthy. We’ll document any areas of concern, whether it’s a skin condition, weight gain, or hair loss. Depending on our findings, we may recommend treatment and/or advanced diagnostics, such as X-rays or laboratory testing. Please feel free to let us know of any concerns that you might have about your pet during these visits, including behavioral or dietary changes.

Pet Vaccinations

Pet vaccines help protect your pet from viruses and diseases—some of which can be potentially fatal—by strengthening the body’s immune system. We typically recommend a series of core (essential) vaccines for dogs and cats, which include:

  • Rabies
  • Canine parvovirus
  • Canine distemper
  • Canine hepatitis
  • Feline panleukopenia
  • Feline calicivirus
  • Feline rhinotracheitis

We may also recommend certain non-core vaccines, depending on your pet’s risk of exposure to certain diseases. With consideration to this factor as well as your pet’s species, age, and breed, we can customize a vaccination schedule. That way, you’ll know exactly which vaccines are needed and when they’re needed.

If your pet is due for a wellness visit or vaccination update, give us a call at 661-670-8773 to schedule an appointment. You can also use our online appointment request form.
