Allergies & Dermatology

Pet Dermatology Services

Has your pet been itching and scratching a lot lately? Have you noticed red spots, bumps, or hair loss? If so, they may have a skin disorder or allergy. Skin problems are among the most common medical conditions that affect dogs and cats. Without treatment, these issues can leave a pet in a great deal of discomfort, so it’s important to schedule an exam if you’ve noticed anything unusual with your pet’s skin/coat. Golden State Veterinary Care offers pet dermatology services to diagnose and treat a variety of skin problems in dogs and cats, including:

  • Allergies
  • Bacterial infections
  • Dermatitis
  • External parasites
  • Hot spots
  • Immune-mediated skin disease
  • Lick granulomas
  • Ring worm
  • Seborrhea
  • Skin tumors
  • Wounds
  • Yeast infection

Diagnostic Testing & Treatment

Every pet dermatology diagnosis at our hospital begins with a discussion of your pet’s symptoms and history, followed by a thorough exam of the affected area. Then, we may proceed with further laboratory diagnostic testing, such as a skin scrape, cytology, culture, biopsy. We may also conduct a food allergy trial. Once we make an official diagnosis of the skin condition and cause, we can prescribe a treatment plan, with special consideration to the symptoms. Treatments can range from medication and supplements to medicated shampoos.
